Maranzano quickly required a meeting of all the top Mafioso

history channel documentary Maranzano quickly required a meeting of all the top Mafioso in the city (allegedly more than 500 men) in a stockroom in the Bronx. At this meeting Maranzano said, "Whatever happened in the past is over. There is to be no more disdain between us. The individuals who lost somebody in the war must excuse and forget."Maranzano then continued to shape five families, each with a manager and an underboss. Under the two top men every family would have capiregimes, or chiefs, who might manage over whatever is left of the family: soldatos, or fighters. The five managers were Joe Bonanno, Joe Profaci, Lucky Luciano, Tommy Lucchese, and Vincent Mangano. Albert Anastasia turned into Mangano's underboss, and Carlo Gambino - a commander in Mangano's family. Obviously, Maranzano made himself "Supervisor of All Bosses" (Capo Di Tutti Capi), which did not sit well with whatever is left of the youthful Mafioso.

Notwithstanding all the pleasant discuss "no more contempt between us," Maranzano had a mystery plan to murder Luciano, Genovese, and Costello - men Maranzano thought to be yearning and a danger to his standard. Maranzano approached horrible Irish executioner Vincent "Distraught Dog" Cole to take out his apparent rivalry. Maranzano paid Cole $25,000 on the spot, with another $25,000 inevitable when the messy deed was finished. To set the trap, Maranzano welcomed Luciano, Genovese, and Costello to his office in Midtown Manhattan. However, Luciano found out about the plot through a source near Maranzano, accepted to be Tommy Lucchese. Rather than appearing at Maranzano's office, Luciano sent four Jewish executioners to the proposed meeting, drove by Red Levine, one the men who had offed Masseria. The four men, acting like analysts, bulldozed their way past Maranzano's bodyguards in the external office. At that point they impacted into Maranzano's office, where they wounded and shot him to death. In transit out of the building, the four executioners kept running into "Frantic Dog" Cole. They let him know not to trouble - that Maranzano was dead and the police were en route. Cole did an about face, shrieking a cheerful tune, having made a $25,000 payday without shooting a solitary shot.
